What is the importance of heavy-duty ground spikes for swing construction?

2025-07-15

As a key basic component of swing construction, heavy-duty ground spikes have a bearing capacity and installation stability that directly determine the safety and durability of the swing, and they play an irreplaceable role in the construction of outdoor amusement facilities.

Heavy Duty Ground Spike

Load-bearing fixation is the primary function. When the swing is running, vertical pulling force and lateral impact force will be generated (the instantaneous impact force of children's swing can reach 300-500N, and that of adult swing can exceed 800N). Heavy-duty ground spikes (diameter ≥16mm, length ≥600mm) are buried deep underground (depth of burial ≥500mm) to form an anchoring structure, which can provide a pull-out force of ≥2000N, which is more than 1.5 times that of ordinary ground spikes (pull-out force ≤800N), effectively preventing the swing frame from tipping over.

Wind and sway resistance ensures safe use. Outdoor swings need to withstand natural wind. When the heavy-duty ground spikes are spirally designed, the bite area with the soil is increased by 60% compared with straight spikes. Under the wind force of level 8 (wind speed 17.2-20.7m/s), the bracket can still be kept stable, and the shaking amplitude is controlled within 5° to avoid users falling due to violent shaking.

Adapt to complex terrain and enhance durability. In soft land (such as grass and sand), ordinary ground spikes are prone to loosening due to settlement, while heavy-duty ground spikes with flange base (diameter ≥200mm) can disperse the pressure to a larger area, and the settlement is ≤10mm/year; on hard ground (such as cement ground), the expansion heavy-duty ground spikes are mechanically locked, and the service life is extended by 3-5 years compared with expansion bolts, reducing maintenance costs.

Standardized installation improves overall safety. When constructed according to the standard, the spacing between the ground spikes on both sides of the swing must match the width of the bracket (error ≤5mm), and a diagonal cross fixing method is adopted to form a triangular stable structure. Data shows that the use of heavy-duty ground spikes that meet the EN 1176 amusement facility standard can reduce the safety accident rate of swings by 70%, and is an essential safety component for the construction of swings in family courtyards, parks, camps and other places.

Although heavy-duty ground spikes are basic components, they bear the core safety responsibility of swings. Their reasonable selection and installation are the key prerequisites to ensure that swings are both fun and safe.
